The Symbolic Evolution of Black Cats
American Halloween Tales
Did you know:

If you see a black cat on Halloween it could mean that there is a witch nearby?
If you hurt a black cat on Halloween it could mean seven years of bad luck?
If a black cat meows on your porch or near a window it means a death will soon occur in the family?

These are some of the most common superstitions in America about black cats on Halloween.
As we know, many of these traditional folklores were conceived while colonizing from Europe to America. The bad reputation they got from the church was the start of these tales. At its peak it was said that black cats were blamed for starting and carrying the bubonic plague. As it has been proven that witches cannot turn into cats, the American people have slowly but surely accepted the black cat, and the lore's have subsided.
